Department of the Navy
Bureau of Medicine and Surgery
1. The SCS is a percentage of the total possible points.
2. Correction of the violations must be accomplished within the following periods:
a. When the SCS is 85 or more, all item violations up to and including four defect points must be corrected as soon as possible but in any event, by the time of the next inspection;
b. When the SCS is 84 or below, all violations must be corrected within 7 days. If not corrected in that time the appropriate food service manager, civilian supervisor or club/mess manager must submit a written report to the commanding officer with a copy to the medical officer or MDR explaining the reasons for the delay;
c. When the SCS is less than 70, the medical officer or MDR must promptly notify the commanding officer and recommend that the facility immediately cease food service until reinspection determines that the significant insanitary conditions have been eliminated;
d. Regardless of the SCS, immediate action must be taken to correct all violations assigned five or more defect points. In addition, the appropriate food service manager, civilian supervisor, or club/mess manager must submit a written report to the commanding officer within 7 days of the inspection, with a copy to the cognizant medical officer or MDR, explaining what actions have been taken to correct these discrepancies.
